The Temple City Voice is featuring a series of interviews with those running for City Council. This is the third interview we have planned for the March 2009 election.

After many years of dedicated service to the community, Temple City Mayor Cathé Wilson remains dedicated to the city. Wilson, who is currently serving her seventeenth year on the City Council, is seeking re-election in March 2009.

A city councilmember must be dedicated and responsive, says the incumbent councilwoman.

“We have to meet the needs of the people of the city,” states Wilson, “and be there for any type of emergency.”

Wilson is also a long-time volunteer of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. As a grandmother of eight, she has been frequently called upon to temporarily watch over children without guardians.

The mayor also noted she has been receptive to the needs to the increasing Asian community. She adds that she was there to assist with the initial formation of the Temple City Chinese American Association (TCCAA).

If re-elected, Wilson’s priorities will be to build places for residents to shop and to support elderly members of the community. Ultimately, the mayor aims to be business-friendly, even in the current economic climate.

“The economic crisis will not change or deter my goals,” asserts Wilson, taking special note of the fact that, “there are many people out there more unfortunate than us, working for weeks without pay or being laid off.”

Wilson retains an optimistic outlook for the future of Temple City because of large money reserves that the city fortunately has not been forced to tap into for the time being.

The incumbent seeks to combine this philosophy with her extensive experience and positive rapport with the community in her bid for re-election to the City Council.
