Excitement filled the air as news travels about the filming of a new movie, Kitchen Sink, taking place in Temple City. It is believed that nothing this big has ever happened in this small town.

Directed by Robbie Pickering, Kitchen Sink is a Columbia Pictures movie about two teenagers teaming up in an alliance with vampires and zombies in order to defeat an invasion of aliens. Starring Vanessa Hudgens, Utkarsh Ambudkar, and Denis Leary, the movie is set to be released in 2014.

Temple City served as a backdrop and scene location for the movie from Friday, August 16 through Sunday, August 18. Longden Elementary School and areas around Flaherty and Cloverly Avenues were featured as residential settings or used by the production crew to set up. Most of the filming occurred at City Hall and Temple City Park, especially for the zombie and vampire scenes. Metro Supermarket was used primarily as a commercial backdrop for the movie.

Incoming Temple City High School Junior Class President Stanley Huang is excited to see the movie simply because he would like to see the parts where Temple City is featured.

“I think it’s really cool that I can go to the movies with my friends and see a movie that is located in a place I am so familiar with,” said Huang, “It doesn’t hurt to know that Vanessa Hudgens was here, too.”

Incoming Temple City High School Junior Janine Hou can relate to Huang’s mindset.

“I really want to watch it just to see the Temple City Park scene,” said Hou.

Though the filming in Temple City may have already ended, the anticipation for it continues.
