Natalie Jin, assistant editor for Temple City Voice, was recently chosen to be the delegate from Temple City for the 2013 Girls State session at Claremont McKenna College in Claremont, CA from June 17-21.
Jin competed with four other nominees from the eleventh grade for this position.
The selection process began with teachers nominating students that showed an interest in leadership and other activities, and the top five nominees went to a group interview with the American Legion where the final delegate was selected.
Girls State is a leadership program sponsored by the American Legion Auxiliary, designed for young women to become more aware of the governmental process whilst learning about the responsibilities of citizenship. There, delegates from schools throughout California have time to develop leadership skills and make new friends as well.
The Temple City delegate is involved in several extracurricular activities and is an Assistant Editor for Temple City Voice, Ocean Science Bowl Captain, and Vice President of Quantum Physics Club. She is also a volunteer at the American Military Museum.
“I’m really excited to meet so many amazing girls from all over California” Jin said. “There are just so many outstanding girls out there and I’m so humbled to be able to join them at Girls State.”
