Anyone willing to donate school supplies for disadvantaged youths at the “I Love School Supply Drive” can send in their goods to City Hall or Live Oak Park before August 15th.
Items that the drive hopes to receive include paper, backpacks, crayons, pencils, rulers, erasers, and folders. It is required that all of the items are new.
The “I Love School Supply Drive” has been helping kids every year, distributing supplies to Emperor and Cleminson Elementary Schools. Last year the drive aided more than 100 students, and their goal is to help more than 150 students for this year.
The creator of the group expresses positivity for the ongoing drive.
“Last year was very successful, (with people) wanting to help out kids starting the school year,” said administrative coordinator Debbie Ingram. “Hopefully, we will get the same response this year.”
Collection boxes can be found at City Hall and at Live Oak Park. Donators should hurry, because the drive ends on quickly on August 15. Families who want to receive supplies should apply at Live Oak Park by August 10, and bring proof of income and children’s ages along with photo identification.
The event is viewed with much support from the community and city.
“Any programs that are going to enhance or help our youth succeed are important for everyone in our city,” Mayor Tom Chavez said. “In our tough economic times, every little bit helps.”
