The deadline to file as a City Council candidate for next March’s election is coming up.
The city of Temple City will hold an election on March 8, 2011. Three seats, including the mayor and two council persons, are open.
Prospective candidates have until next Friday, December 10 to file.
“We probably won’t be giving out paperwork [to run] on the 10th, because you will still need signatures,” Peggy Kuo, an employee with the City Clerk’s office, said. “Try to go before so you have time to finish everything on time.”
So far, eight individuals have pulled paperwork. Only one candidate, incumbent Councilman Carl Blum, has filed to run.
The remaining seven include Temple City Mayor Fernando Vizcarra, City Councilwoman Cynthia Sternquist, Aaron Kieffer, Amos Broughton, Stephen Curran, Nicholas Lisk, and Wesley Hester II.
Blum and Sternquist are the only two candidates who have been appointed to the City Council. Vizcarra was elected to a second nonconsecutive term in 2007.
To apply, individuals must be at least 18 years old and have been a resident of Temple City for one year. Individuals must also gather 20 signatures.
The City Clerk will ultimately determine whether a candidate is qualified to run.
